European fusion research under Horizon 2020 combines target-oriented 5-year (2014-2018) EUROFusion program, which takes place under the auspices of the EURATOM Treaty. The basic objectives of the EU fusion research are related to support of the ITER fusion reactor and in the long-term, the realization of demonstration fusion power plant. The EUROFusion program is performed by a consortium of fusion research units of the EU countries (in total 29), where the Jozef Stefan Institute acts as a Slovenian coordinator and partner in the consortium. The leading partner in a consortium is the Institute of Plasma Physics (IPP), Germany. Decision-making body of the consortium is General Assembly.

In the days between 15. 10. and 16.10.2016 the 16th meeting of the General Assembly EUROFUSIONE was held in Madrid, organized by CIEMAT (Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas). At the meeting we discussed the content of the program for the year 2017. Within the information on the course of the program EUROFusion was very encouraging report on the successful completion of the last deuterium experiments on JET fusion device. On JET fusion device a record number of successive long pulses with an output of around 20 MW have been achieved. Also the WEST facility in Cadarache, which is now equipped with Wolfram Research divertor, was successfully commissioned in the beginning of December.

The call for 2017 has been very successful for the Josef Stefan Institute - in addition to ongoing projects, we have also acquired three new projects, one in the field of basic research on materials, one experimental project within the framework of PEX (Plasma EXhaust) program and a scholarship for a young researcher in the field of engineering research.

EUROFusion General Assembly meeting was attended by dr. Boštjan Končar from Reactor Engineering Division, JSI.
