Italy's Enel has announced that its subsidiary Enel Produzione and the Czech company Energetický a Průmyslový Holding have agreed to a provide additional loans for the completion of Mochovce 3 and 4 in the Slovak Republic, and altered the terms for EPH to eventually buy out Enel's stake in Slovenské elektrárne. They and EP Slovakia BV have signed a new agreement that modifies some of the terms and conditions of the 2015 contract concerning the sale of the stake held by Enel Produzione in the Slovak utility.

Rusatom - Additive Technologies has opened its first Additive Technologies Centre as the only such facility in Russia using domestic equipment. Located at the site of the Moscow Polymetal Plant, the ATC will mainly test additive manufacturing technologies and demonstrate their capabilities for industrial enterprises.
Belarus unit starts pilot operation (Wed, 23 Dec 2020 16:03:01 GMT)
Unit 1 of the first nuclear power plant to be built in Belarus started pilot operation yesterday, Russia's Rosatom has announced. Pilot operation is the final and longest check of a power unit before commissioning. The unit is be the first of the VVER-1200 design to be built outside Russia.
Congress approves nuclear energy funding for FY2021 (Wed, 23 Dec 2020 15:36:56 GMT)
The US Congress voted to approve appropriations for fiscal year 2021 that includes USD1.5 billion for the Department of Energy's Office of Nuclear Energy. The appropriations also include USD150 million to initiate the uranium reserve programme to address challenges to the production of domestic uranium.

The US Department of Energy has released the draft Environmental Impact Statement for construction of the Versatile Test Reactor, a sodium-cooled reactor that will provide a source of fast neutrons needed to test advanced reactor technology, fuels and related materials. Czech Republic shortlists geological repository sites (Tue, 22 Dec 2020 15:20:18 GMT)
The Czech Cabinet has approved a shortlist of four potential sites for a deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive nuclear waste. The government also approved a new schedule calling for the site to be selected by 2030, five years later than originally planned. The repository is expected to be operational by 2065.

The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority has today approved the independent core cooling systems implemented by the operators of the country's nuclear power plants. The operators were required to introduce such systems following the accident at Fukushima Daiichi. UK regulator to merge leadership roles (Wed, 16 Dec 2020 15:55:44 GMT)
The UK's Office for Nuclear Regulation has announced plans to align its leadership structure to other nuclear regulators around the world with a new combined post of chief nuclear inspector and chief executive. CNI Mark Foy will take up the new combined post, subject to detailed government approvals. A new senior regulatory role, executive director of operations/deputy chief inspector, will also be established. The exact timescales have yet to be confirmed, but the changes will come into effect later in 2021.

Synthos Green Energy has announced the completion of a deployment feasibility study for the implementation of a fleet of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy BWRX-300 small modular reactors in Poland. Nuclear-produced hydrogen, using electrolyser technology, could have a "sizeable contribution" to make in the development of the hydrogen economy, according to a new report from the New Nuclear Watch Institute think-tank.
