Centre of excellence for nuclear materials - MINOS was established in 2011 by the Division of Atomic Energy, CEA, France. Within the Centre the basic and applied research in the field of nuclear materials and structures are carried out. The main objective of this research is to improve safety and extend the lifetime of currently operating reactors, to optimize the management of radioactive waste and to develop new materials for the 4th generation nuclear reactors. MINOS encompasses three French research centers: Saclay, Cadarache and Marcoule.

MINOS promotes research on nuclear materials by organizing international workshops and schools. The content of this year's MINOS workshop, the second in a row, entitled "Irradiation of Nuclear Material Flux and Dose Effects" was linked to research of irradiation effects on materials used in existing reactors and materials that are considered for the next fission and fusion systems. The emphasis was on structural materials (mainly metal alloys) and materials related to nuclear fuel. Effects of flux and radiation dose from irradiation with neutrons, electrons or ions were examined at the nanometer (primary damage), micrometer (evolution of damage) and centimeter or larger scale (impact on the physical, chemical and mechanical properties). In four sections, each open to invited lectures, experimental tools and equipment as well as theoretical models and simulations were presented.

MINOS workshop, which was organized in Cadarache by CEA and the INSTN, was attended by Dr. Samir El Shawish from the Reactor Engineering Division of the "Jožef Stefan" Institute.
