NARSIS (New Approach to Reactor Safety Improvements) project was proposed in 2014 to the call for Horizon 2020, but was due to financial constraints of the European Commission not selected for funding despite the good assessment. The main objective of the project proposal has been to scientifically improve individual elements required for probabilistic safety analysis, with emphasis on external natural event, i.e. earthquake, tsunami, coastal and river flooding and strong winds.

This year's NARSIS meeting was aimed to prepare a proposal for updated call of Horizon 2020 in 2016. Firstly, new participants in the project proposal were identified. Then the overall structure of the project proposal was looked at, followed by a review of the scientific content of each work package and connections between the work packages. Then the discussion took place on the new potential contributions to the project proposal as well as on the financial aspects. Since the proposal for the NARSIS project three new establishments were accessioned (to the original seventeen) and one was withdrawn. Since the maximum amount of funding is limited, the specific organization contributions, the amount of man-months needed, the amount of other costs (stay and travel, as well as the dissemination of knowledge) and the amount that should be co-financed by European Communities will need to be reassessed.

The NARSIS meeting, which was hosted on January 25th 2016 in Clamart by EdF (Électricité de France) and organized by CEA (Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives) acting as coordinator, was attended by 14 representatives from 12 organizations along with two representatives of two organizations who participated at the meeting via teleconference. The meeting was attended by Dr. Andrej Prošek from the Reactor Engineering Division, JSI.
