A preparatory meeting of the ICONE25 conference, Shanghai, China, 5. - 10. 12. 2016

ICONE International Conference (International Conference on Nuclear Engineering) is every year jointly organized by the American (ASME) and Japan (JSME) Association of Mechanical Engineers and the China Nuclear Society (CNS). In the year of 2017 the conference, which traditionally brings together over 800 nuclear experts from around the world, will be held between May 14th and May 18th 2017 in Shanghai, China.

At the meeting was noted the enormous response from the authors who have offered 1,200 papers. Rules for paper reviews were specified and a draft of a protocol part of the conference was made. Particular attention was paid to the invited speakers who will participate in the conference opening ceremony and of course to panelists who will participate in the scheduled 10 panels.

Visit to Shanghai was exploited for a detailed view of the construction site of nuclear power plants in Sanmen, where Westinghouse is building two AP1000 reactors. In first nuclear power plant they are already carrying out hot tests. It is planned that it will start trial operation in less than one year. Plans are to build a total of 6 AP 1000 units on this site. The rest of the time spent in China was devoted to meetings and strategic considerations of the Executive Committee Section of Nuclear Energy Division at ASME.

The meeting, which was held in Shanghai by SNERDI (Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Reseacrh and Design Institute), was attended by prof.dr. Leon Cizelj, head of the Reactor Engineering Division.
