European fusion research under Horizon 2020 combines target-oriented 5-year (2014-2018) EUROfusion fusion program, which takes place under the auspices of the EURATOM treaty. The basic objectives of the EU fusion research are related to research in support of the ITER fusion reactor and the long-term, to the realization of demonstration fusion power plant. In the EUROfusion program, executed by a consortium of fusion research units EU countries (total 29), the Institute "Jozef Stefan" acts as a coordinator and Slovenian partner in the consortium. The leading partner in a consortium is the Institute of Plasma Physics (Institute of Plasma Physics - IPP), Germany. Decision-making body of the consortium is the General Assembly.

The  15th meeting of the General Assembly EUROfusion took place on October 10th and 11th 2016 in Naples, and was organized by the local CREATE (Consorzio di Ricerca per l'Energia, l 'e AUTOMAZIONI only Tecnologie dell' Elettromagnetismo). The General Assembly has re-elected President of the Scientific and Technical Committee - STAC (Scientific Technical Advisory Committee), Dr. William Morris (CCFEA), and elected a new Vice STAC, Dr. Silvana Tostija (ENEA) for a new two-year term. By the year 2017, the EUROfusion project will be joined by the Ukraine. For the inclusion of its researchers in the European fusion program the European Commission (EC) allocated additional € 300,000 per year. The General Assembly unanimously decided that the representative of Ukraine may participate in future meetings of the GA as an observer. Project managers (WPS1 - W7-X experimental campaigns), WPS2 - Helias theory and modeling based on W7-X results) and WPPMI (Power Plant Physics and Engineering Integration) presented the status and progress of the projects at the General Meeting. The main part of the debate at the General Assembly was devoted to the proposed program PEX (Plasma EXhaust), where a special group evaluated 10 proposals, including a JSI proposal.

The EUROfusion General Assembly meeting was attended by Dr. Bostjan Končar from the Reactor Engineering Division, JSI.
